Signing Up
- How do I sign up?
-
Once
service has been activated in your area you can just turn on the
wireless access software on your laptop or desktop and connect
to the network called "FRIIPublicAccess." Open a web browser, and
we'll walk you through getting signed up.
Don't have a wireless receiver in your computer? No problem.
Just Contact us.
- How much does it cost?
-
How about free? You can access the FRII Wireless network at no charge all
day long. You just need to log in every 30 minutes so our sponsors get a
chance to share their great offers with you. We also offer uninterrupted,
secured access without sponsor advertising for $3.95 per hour or $7.95 per
day. Monthly packages start at $29.95.
- Is it available here?
-
Check our coverage map to see if we've
turned up your area yet.
- Will you keep charging me if I forget to log off?
-
Nope. All our hourly and daily packages are pre-paid. Once your time is
up, the system will automatically log you off.
Hardware & Software
- What do I need to connect?
-
You've probably already got it. Any laptop with built-in
wireless or a wireless card (pretty much anything made in the last 5 years)
can connect to the FRII Wireless network. Your home or office PC/Mac
likely has a wireless receiver too.
If you don't have a receiver, contact
us. Our receivers can also help you connect all your
home or business computers.
- Do I need to buy extra software?
-
Nope. All you need is the wireless connection software that came with your
computer or wireless receiver.
- Will it work on my Mac?
-
Yes. Our network can connect with any computer that can
support a wireless networking card, or has one built in.
- Do I need a big ugly antenna?
-
Nope. If you're connecting from a laptop, or from a desktop
machine that already has a wireless receiver in it, there's
usually no visible antenna. If you connect from your home
or office network, the whole receiver is about the size of a
paperweight.
On the Go
- I'm just passing through - do I have to buy an account?
-
Nope. Use it as much as you like thanks to our generous sponsors.
Look for great offers in the area while you are online!
Technical Stuff
- What protocols does your network use?
-
Most users connect to our network using the popular 802.11b/g protocols.
- Why do you call it a mesh network?
-
All of our access points (antennas) work together to form a mesh
of coverage over an area. If you move from one access point to
another, the mesh makes sure that your connection never drops.
By comparison, most wireless network are point-to-point. All the
users in an area connect to one big antenna. If that antenna breaks,
or if you walk into a building and out of its sight, your connection
is gone.
